2013 Fall update

So many things have happened here this year! First of all, Diamond Rio Peppy now has a new owner, the young lady who I had put his first rides on. They suit each other and Rio will be hitting the show pen in the future- look for this pair in the Cowboy Up Challenges, and maybe even in some English classes and Western Dressage in a few years.

Rio did well at the trainers, and will get some time off to grow up this fall, then Shayla will have a lot of fun with training him next spring.
Shining Midnight Moon, aka Nitro, was sold as a weanling, and resold to a friend of ours and has come back here to live.  He is a long yearling now and what a beautiful boy he is!
His owner has decided to leave him as a stallion for at least another year, and the plan is to test breed him to Gussie next year. Once he goes into training, the goal is to get him well broke and then see if he has an aptitude for speed events.

Coyote Belle fooled me this year- the first time I haven't been present when she foaled (11 AM!) and I got home from work to find a lovely black filly, all dried off, standing and nursing. I named her Stella Belle Peppy, and she is the long awaited black filly I have wanted. This was my first sight of her:
She is  really a sweet filly, easy to work with, friendly and curious.

I'm really pleased with Stella and plan to keep her for my personal riding horse.
I have an update on Midnight Coyote, aka Kai,  the folks who bought him resold him to a family, and he is 3 now. They have been doing the ground work on him but haven't ridden him yet. They say he has the same sweet attitude that the other siblings do, no surprise there!

The other full sibling to Kai, Rio, Nitro and Stella is Sparkle N Peppy, aka Jazz. She is 4 this year, and was sent to the same trainer as Rio.
I'm hoping to get photos next year of Jazz and Rio being ridden together- the first time I will get photos of Beamer babies together under saddle.
Coyote Belle has been bred back to Beamer for a 2014 foal- and if you want one of these beauties, I suggest speaking for it now, or shortly after it's born.

My red roan mare, Gussie, unfortunately gave birth to twins this year.... they only lived two days. There was a black colt and a red roan filly. It was heartbreaking to have them for such a short time. I have been riding Gussie a lot this year, she is such a nice mare, and I plan on getting her going on the Cowboy Up challenge shows- we hosted one here in Creston this year and I hope to have her ready for next year's show.
Here we were practicing the teeter totter bridge...
and here is her real opinion of it... we have a lot of work to do!

Chickory was sold to Fleetwood Farms in Alberta before she foaled, and she gave birth to a beautiful sorrel filly. When the owner found out that I had lost Gussie's twins, he very generously gave me Chickory's filly. We picked her up in mid August at 5 months old, and put her in with Stella for weaning. She's a beauty!
I registered her as Joleo Peppy, barn name is Josie- or Little Jo, as she is much smaller than Stella! She is all sorrel with only a tiny snip between her nostrils and a few white hairs on her forehead. She is for sale. This is one athletic filly, her cutting blood is really showing up in her. I'll do a separate post on her, complete with pedigree.

Starting off 2013 right

Some good things happening here this year. Chickory is doing well in her new home, it's a large ranch where she spends her days with a brood mare band, and this spring the new owner plans to breed her to his good grulla stud, Jazz Poco Goldun Blue. I plan on visiting there this year to see her Beamer baby, which is due in March.

Shining Midnite Moon (aka Nitro) who was sold to a lady in Cranbrook, was resold to a friend of my husband's and is now being boarded back with us. We are delighted to have him, and have the opportunity to watch this gorgeous boy grow up.

Speaking of gorgeous boys, Diamond Rio Peppy (aka Rio) is 2 this year, and his training is going really well. We've been doing a lot of ground work on him,. and yesterday he got to find out how it feels to have a rider on his back.
He was pretty relaxed about it as you can see by his soft eye. No, that's not me up there, it's a young lady who doesn't weigh much! She will be paired up with Rio for his upcoming show career. Rio will be going for 2 months of professional training this summer at Smith Training Stables, Ft. McLeod Alberta.
The horse in my header photo is Rio as a baby.

The ladies in waiting, Coyote Belle and Bar Dawn Sabre (Gussie) are both due to foal at the end of March. If Belle has a colt, it will be for sale, if it's a filly I'm keeping her. Gussie's foal will be for sale, we are hoping that her track record of blue roan babies holds for this one too.

Update

Just a post to bring you up to date on the status of the horses for sale here. Chickory, who was slated to go to Texas, had a laminitic episode the day she was to travel, so the sale was cancelled. We successfully treated her, and she is 100% sound, and has been sold to Alberta. She will be leaving in January. I'm kind of sad that I won't get to see her first foal being born, but the new owner has promised lots of photos.

Nitro (Shining Midnite Moon) is now living in Cranbrook B.C. with a possible future as a barrel horse.

Diamond Rio Peppy is still with us, he will be 2 in the spring and is a big boy. We haven't yet decided if he will remain a stallion or be gelded. we are hoping for a show career for him.

Coyote Belle and Gussie (Bar Dawn Sabre) are in foal for late March/early April foals. Gussie's foal will be for sale, and if Coyote Belle has another colt he will be for sale, but if it is a filly I'll be keeping her.

Gussie so far has thrown blue roans when bred to Beamer, so anyone interested in this foal should put the word in early- they sell fast.

Chickory is for sale

I'm offering Chickory for sale again, I just have too many to work with at the moment, so one of them has to go. Chickory is 4 this year, and still pretty green, but all the basics are in place, she just needs miles and someone to put her on cattle, it's what she's bred for. Here is her pedigree:
AV  Hickory Miss
Because she is green, I'm willing to negotiate on her price- my only concern is that she finds a good home. No dealers please.

Chickory update

Chickory did well at the trainers, he liked her and said the only thing wrong with her was that he didn't own her. She learns quickly, and is very light and responsive.

Rio and Chickory

My husband and I have decided to keep Rio for the time being, as Ted has taken quite a shine to him. We will see what next year brings and whether or not we will offer him for sale again then.
Rio and his daddy, Beamer
We are still offering Chickory (AV Hickory Miss) for sale. She is growing up to be a nice solid looking mare, stands 14.2, and is easy to handle. I have not put as much training on her as I wanted this year, so she is quite green. She will be headed to the trainer in October, unless she sells before then. Her price reflects her level of training. If she doesn't sell this year, she will be bred to Beamer next spring.

AV Hickory Miss, cutting bred 3 yr. old mare

I have decided to offer Chickory for sale. I think that I wouldn't do this girl justice, she needs to go to a home where she will have a career working cattle, either in the cutting pen or in the penning and sorting game. She is super quick and athletic, and there just aren't any cattle to work within two hours of here, with the exception of a few roping steers.

(Photo taken July 15  last year)
Last year, as a two year old, I did all the ground work: longeing, sacking out, ground driving, and got in 9 rides in the round pen, walk and trot.

I've just started working her again, and she hasn't forgotten anything, just picked up where we left off. I'll continue to work with her until she is sold. I've been riding her in a bosal, as she is shedding caps on her teeth right now, but have ridden her in a snaffle, she accepts either way.
She is that lovely true dun color, with striping on her legs. She is also a rabicano, with white hair on her flanks and tailhead.
Email me if you are interested; diamondlazyh641@hotmail.com
I can send more photos and videos, and can also arrange hauling.

Well it's springtime again, and I have put Chickory and Sparkle back on the market.
This is Sparkle, photo taken this last week:
Here is a link to her web page on Northern Horse.com. She just had her teeth floated and wolf teeth pulled.

Here is Chickory, photo taken today.

She also just had her teeth done, and has been DNA'd for the AQHA.

Chickory update

Chickory is growing stronger and stouter. She is scheduled for training under Jodi Savage in March. She's quick , catty, and shows plenty of interest in cattle, as one would expect from a granddaughter of Doc's Hickory.

Sparkle updated photos

Sparkle is starting to shed out black; she will probably be a smoky brown when she is all shed out.I will be weaning her in August, and she will be for sale then.

I also have Chickory up for sale, to an approved home only. This yearling dun mare is a granddaughter of Doc's Hickory, which puts Peppy San Badger on her papers, and is out of a double bred Poco Bueno mare. She is very quick and catty and I expect her to make an awesome cowhorse. Anyone interested in these girls can call me at 250 254-9955.
